Essentials
Sculpture should embody the essence of living fully, capturing the fleeting nature of life. At most, we may circle the sun 100 times in our lifetimes. Sculptural lines, curves, materials, texture & patinas should encourage viewers to embrace their life experiences and cherish passing moments.
The Cold Night Sky
the eternal master of the sky
moving; a dance of light
silent...
as if nothing else was
the heavens sing to me.
the high strings
streak across the stage
the smooth rhythm
of violins waft in the curtain
floating overhead,
the double-bass
thrumming with a flash of red.
a chorus of peace
having no end...
this dance of life
I see reflected in your eyes.

"Every particular in nature, a leaf, a drop, a crystal, a moment in time is related to the whole. So intimate is this Unity, that, it is easily seen, it lies under the undermost garment of nature, and betrays its source in universal Spirit. For it pervades thought also."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Northern Lights II
The northern lights are a magical phenomenon to witness. Northern Lights II captures a moment in time where the cold, Alaskan, night sky is alive with motion. This sculpture was created using bronze, buttered over individual pieces of steel. A liver of sulphur patina was applied to the bronze. This piece was featured in Robert Olsen's Gallery "Vision's of Nature" in the Hotel Captain Cook. It was awarded the UAA 1999 "Juror's Choice Award."

Northern Lights I
Materials that transport goods and products are used to convey motion and flow in this take on the northern lights. Railroad rail slices and American Pipeline Association (API) 6" pipeline pipe, is utilized in the construction. The base is steel with a faux bronze patina. The patina on the sculpture is copper dissolved in nitric acid, and then treated with heat from a torch, for highlights.

Curiosity
Curiosity invites us to ponder the mysteries of life. What lies beyond and outside of us? Each glimpse can inspire reflection, or prompt us to question our own journeys and the paths we choose. Curiosity is made with plaster, copper-leaf and bronze mirrors.
